When I see the humor in things, my way of reasoning becomes lighter, my heart lifts, I start laughing, I feel better! Others colse to me also get caught up in the happiness and begin laughing as well. Three very prominent things happen at this point. Firstly, others have been served by my humor and happiness, they feel happy because of it. Secondly, they now begin to see me with separate eyes. They no longer hold me in the position of "sad case." And thirdly, I myself feel much better!" So this scenario illustrates how easy it is to not only to serve the self but others as well.

If you need to kick start your humor, go see a comedic play or movie. Visit with friends or have a party. Watch kittens, puppies or small children playing. Just get out and engage yourself in watching the world through children's eyes.

When I lay in my hospital bed, unable to move my limbs on the right side of my body, I remembered that God has said to find entertainment in everything. I did! The charm of it was that although I would be totally immersed in playing the role of man with cancer or who just got beaten by her husband or one who killed her husband; I always knew that when the play was finished, I would change my costume and go home safe and sound and happy. You see, we are each just playing a role on this world stage.

Shakespeare knew it when he said "All the world's a stage and we are but actors playing our roles upon it." The problem is we get so caught up in the scene we forget we are the actors and start to recapitulate only to the character we are playing. We don't perceive we are not the illness, not the situation, not the sorrow. We are the eternally blissful soul which is very much isolate of these exterior influences. But when I forget this, I am like a man who sits in a burning car screaming for help but refuses to leave the car. All he needs to do is open the door and step out of the car. But because he identifies so much with that automobile, he admittedly thinks he is his car, he thinks there is no way to isolate himself from the impending disaster. Step back see the real you.
